I was greatly inspired by The Lewis Chessmen. These ancient pieces came to Exeter museum as part of a touring exhibition. They are said to be a symbol of European civilization. I got a strong feel for their historic and cultural importance as they seemed to represent humanity and community on different levels.
I worked on finding a new translation of this game, using existing recycled everyday household materials, with the environmental concern in mind.
I am drawn to this strategic game partly because it encourages contemplativeness and reflection next to its more dynamic side.
