Reclining torso
Height : 31 cms
Width : 82 cms
Depth : 38 cms
My sculpture is a female torso reflecting the vulnerable beauty of humanity.
It is made from my own mix of paper clay, the clay was scrap clay from a local foundry, mixed with newspaper.
I hand modelled the piece then wood fired it in my kiln I built to fire my sculptures. The kiln is made from house bricks from demolition and fire bricks from the demolished kilns at Dartington The wood used to fuel the kiln was from a local skip firm.
I work mainly in clay of all types from terracotta to porcelain, making my own mix including paper clay, incorporating materials such as sawdust, crushed brick, sand etc. to achieve different surface textures. I mix my own glazes.
My work ranges from conventional pottery, figurative and abstract sculpture, wood fired, raku or smoke fired. I have designed and built various gas and wood fired kilns, my latest being a 40 cu. ft. wood fired kiln, in which I can fire four life size figurative sculptures.
I work with life models or photographs 'in the round', enjoying the artistic and technical challenge.
I welcome enquiries to undertake commissions.
