These two assemblages were started by me picking up an old used wine casket in a Barcelona street in 1990, From this humble beginning the head of Barcelona man gave birth to a body made from left over wood offcuts from my father in law's garden shed workshop in London. The following year I made him a mate from a collection of recycled material. I'm sure he was forever grateful. The assemblages are a light relief from my paintings and stem from my love of old and quirky things which are of no more practical use but which can enjoy a second bite of the cherry in their transmuted state. The act of creation is a strange thing and one which artists are privileged to take part in, often unwittingly breathing new life and meaning into something that is past its sell buy date.
