Mexico Dancing  Size - 150cm x 86cm x 10cm

A mixed media hanging using recycled materials.

Techniques - Painted, knotted, machine stitched, wax resist and tapestry.

This piece was inspired by backpacking around Central America without a care in the world. I danced, walked, swam and talked freely - excited by all I saw and absorbed.

Whilst I admired the gorgeous colourful costumes of the Mexican Tribal people; I was naive concerning the poverty that often hid behind this visual feast.

'Mexico Dancing' reflects on how I as a tourist often glamourised the Tribal lifestyle and did not understand the harsh reality of living a basic lifestyle without basic medical help and adequate food and clean water.
