NOT WAVING - BUT DROWNING

This sculpture consists of life size arms, protruding from the flower beds, each clasping items of rubbish commonly found on our beaches.

There will be 5 arms in total, each fixed onto 'Met-Posts'. They will be made of my preferred medium of recycled newspaper & wire and painted in skin tones.

The sculpture is a play upon words as in the well known poem which inspired this work. The arms are not happy holiday makers enjoying a day out at the beach, they represent human-kind drowning amongst the weight of pollution now present in our oceans.

SEA SPRITE

The Sea Sprite is a life-size sculpture - a companion to my previous Sea Horse. Where the Sea Horse was a benevolent entity bringing focus to the fragility of marine life in polluted seas; the Sea Sprite is rather more forceful in presenting his message. The continual pollution of our oceans has endangered marine life thus threatening the life of the 'Sea Sprite', the spirit of the sea.

He is made in recycled newspaper and wire and has hair which complements the mane of the Sea Horse. He is painted in colours which represent the ever changing nature of our oceans. The sculpture is approx 8 feet high (incl hair). Designed to be bio-degradable in time but well able to withstand the elements, the figure is presented on a 'Met Post' which runs internally through the structure. For ease of installation one leg has a separate boot which will be fixed into place on site.
