One World

Odd bits and pieces of recycled objects are shown on the light box. They show how we take our unnecessary packaging for granted. In other, less affluent, parts of the world, nothing is left unused, every thing is re-used.

At the School of Employable Skills in the Ashanti region of Ghana in Africa, many objects we take for granted are greatly valued. Apart from books, nails and rulers, hammers and saws are really hard to obtain. These are used to teach the teenage children carpentry. Although the school really appreciates the money for new tools even broken tape-measures are used. Books are locked away at times because they are so precious.

An old cutlery tray forms the base of this work. Other items include pages from old books, glass, nails, etc., also an old screw-driver. All this shows the diversity of items re-used in the school.
The Electricity that lights this old light-box is another item we take for granted. Funds had to be raised to provide the school with any electricity at all, even one light.
