Turquoise blue is my favourite colour and when I discovered that fusing car windscreen glass in a certain way produced this amazing blue 'to dive into' I knew I was hooked and had to take the idea further. Currently I am exploring the use of car windscreen glass to produce a range of jewellery, neck sculpture wall art and sculpture. Lets not waste water and let's not waste material, let's recycle whenever we can! Inspiration for my work in recycled materials came about during a visit to a landfill site in Cornwall where I became acutely aware of the amount of reusable material that is being 'thrown' away, creating a lasagne of layers of waste.

I seek for intrinsic qualities in the glass obtained from the discarded windscreens, small inclusions and pattern inherent in the glass will form detail that is individual and unique to the piece. The pieces are laid out by hand and kiln formed using energy in a thoughtful and cost effective way. Redefining waste material, creating an appearance quite different to its original existence and in doing so giving life to something that has been discarded, coupled with the fact that the material is freely available and the resource plentiful, allows a wonderful sense of freedom and an enjoyable challenge in experimentation.

Aligning with 'recyclia' a social/cultural point of view in the art world that many artists today are interested in, my work observes the interaction between art and the problem of waste and is inspired by the treasure that can be discovered in trash, making a positive contribution both to art and the environment.
