Plastic Bag Free Teignmouth campaign

Teignmouth is one of many places across UK, striving to join towns like Modbury and Bovey Tracy in Devon, and countries worldwide, by becoming plastic bag free.

How you can help.

The world's oceans are awash with plastic.
'More than a million seabirds and 100,000 mammals and sea turtles die globally each year from entanglement in, or ingestion of plastics' (Marine Conservation Society)
A plastic bag takes between 500 - 1000 years to break down to microscopic toxic particles that remain in the environment.
A degradable plastic bag does the same in less time.

Work produced collaboratively during a 4-week artist residency, by Lauren Ballard and Yr 6 at Gatehouse Primary School (12th May - 20th June 08).

Time to act on plastic
Environmental artist Lauren Ballard recently carried out a 4-week residency at Gatehouse Primary School, though workshops Year 6 children addressed issues of how our excessive use of throwaway plastics affects the world's ecosystems - threatening wildlife, and contributing to climate change.

Finding the balance of sustainability
These works and other work created during the residency featured as part of the School's annual art day (20th June 08), combining workshops for family and friends, and pupils' and teachers' art work exhibited by throughout the School. For pictures and more information, visit the School's website.
