Freshwater Dreaming: The Tap Tree
(Aqua et Ignis Arboreus, 'The tree of necessaries of life')
Decking, taps, copper piping and fittings
Size: height 6ft, spread 2ft.
I often work with recycled and natural objects, donated, purchased second hand or found. I also use a Freecycle web site to find materials that would otherwise end up in land fill.
Inspiration for this piece - it all started when I found a short hollow log on a beach in Somerset, I carried it home and put it in the garden. Sometime later I bought some interesting old taps at a car boot sale. On wondering where to put the taps I shoved them into the hollow of the log. Inspired I gradually added more taps
I then looked at it and thought it looked like a plant and I started to imagine what it would be like to really grow a Tap Tree. I could harvest water.
So the idea for this sculpture 'Fresh Water Dreaming' was sown.
I looked at Latin names and chose Aqua et ignis arboreus, [the tree of necessaries of life].
