Kev Sparks / Alex Thompson - What's the Catch?

This is our first collaborative effort together. We aim to provoke thought into the personal, local, national and international decisions that affect local ecosystems by displaying one of the more high profile victims.

The initial idea was to use copper pipes for the dolphin, but the idea evolved rapidly when a water boiler lay next to them. We were determined to hand cut all the pieces and contrast the beauty of the metal with the plastic netting. The oceans are both our larder and a super-highway. The former is becoming depleted and the latter is all to apparent from the huge numbers of casualties and the fact that our coastline is becoming little more than a gutter into which rubbish finds its way. Entanglement in fishing gear is the number one cause of death in stranded cetaceans. It is estimated that 300,000 also die as by catch each year, because they are unable to escape when caught in nets. Recently, strandings have occurred in Cornwall, military operations the possible cause.

The ocean is also inspiration to previous work.
What's the catch?
