TROUBLED WATER

TROUBLED WATER is sited on the sunny cliff top overlooking Lyme Bay, in Jason's Garden. Geologist Jason Pope and 4 other men disappeared 10 years ago during an attack on Yetwene diamond mine in Angola. His family created this Garden as a place of remembrance and healing.

TROUBLED WATER is built from a multitude of discarded materials- old broken playground equipment and toys, guns, tools, ornaments, the bizarre and toxic detritus of our throwaway society. Water, raised by handpump from the pool of floating plastic, flows through the sculpture - a reminder of the huge quantities of plastic waste now circulating in the oceans.
As well as adding movement and sound, this water (kept clear by extract of barley straw) is a resource for wildlife during the summer.

Through viewing spaces in the sculpture, TRAIL visitors can look across the sea to the South, the direction of Africa, and activate the water to drip and spray by working the hand pump

Jason's Garden is open 2-4 each day until 7th Sept
