Churchill Community Centre:

'Flowers of the Future'

'How many of us are guilty of buying a child a new and unnecessary toy?'

The above quote is what inspired our TRAIL Project for 2008. Our society as a whole is trapped in the vicious circle of over consumerism and over production – eventually what's left of our green spaces will be over run by landfill.

The Churchill community group who were involved in the process of making and developing the sculpture, were aged between 7 and 12 years old, so could easily relate to this theme.
All the materials used were rescued from skips, recycling centres, peoples dust bins and the children brought their own unwanted toys from home.

The workshop leaders, Jenny Archer and Branca Bastos have been working together running creative workshops, since June 2007 at the existing Churchill Community centre's Saturday morning arts club in Dawlish. Therefore a strong working relationship between the Community Development Worker (Jenny Archer) the Artist (Branca Bastos) and the children had already been formed.

Jenny Archer is the Community Development Worker and is currently managing the Churchill Community Centre in Dawlish. Her main aim is to develop the community by using creative and artistic methods and therefore was thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in the Sculpture TRAIL 2008.
