Brixham Adult and Community Learning Centre:
The Beautiful Drinker
Recycled fabrics, plastic bags, beer bottle tops.
This project has been undertaken by ACE students studying Textiles at Brixham Adult and Community Learning (ACL) Department. Textile artist and tutor, Kay Lynch, has been responsible for leading this project. Kay is a practicing artists/maker who has taken the students through a series of experimental textile workshops. The students and volunteers have explored knitting, stitching and beading techniques, working with plastic bags, old fabrics, ribbon, cord etc. They have worked 'exclusively' with discarded fabrics and materials.
This recycled sculpture is called 'The Beautiful Drinker' and pays homage, to the beautiful and varied beaded textiles that have been evident throughout the history of costume. Our 'thrown away', beer bottle top beads decorate the surface of this textile sculpture beautifully. Project participants included disabled adults and volunteers who are members of ACE.
