My Personal Design Philosophy
To me, designing and making is all about exploring ones creativity and
finding new ways to fulfil that need to create and this is what I am
exploring with my current work.
Being creative to me, simply means one who has the ability to create,
whether its music, paintings, literature, dance, any thing.
My personal outlet for my creativity is making jewellery. I make
jewellery for many reasons one because I have an interest in fashion
and the jewellery industry is a big part of that and secondly because I
feel the jewellery one wears says a great deal about that person and
has a more personal quality then the clothes one wears.
The jewellery I design/make is about the simple need to create
beautiful things. It is about getting back to the roots of creating and
I have drawn influences from many sources such as folk art throughout
the world and 40's-70's 'make and do' books.
I do not believe that in order for something to be beautiful and
precious it needs to be made from a rare or expensive material such as
gold or diamonds and there fore the work I make is created from carrier
bags and other products created from a throw away society. I then
combine these materials with resin and silver. This brings me onto the
other driving force behind the work I create. By using materials that
are considered junk and are usually thrown away I wish to challenge the
views of consumerism, and the environment.
My work is fairly small scale and is very bright, colourful, cheerful
and flamboyant. It is marketed at women of all ages that have a taste
for something bright and individual.

Louise Hensby
Is a painter who records the natural forms and beauty of the landscape. Her paintings link collected materials including wire, cushion covers, ceiling tiles, carpet threads and polystyrene with painted surfaces.
A lot of these materials were someones unwanted waste and most probaby been discaerded in a landfill site.
Instead, by the processes of sowing and sticking, these redundant materials have been recycled,

Plymouth College of Art and Design contributed a piece of work which was engaging, lively and hard to define, falling between film making/fineart and advertising graphics.

The Enchanted Castle-inspired by mediaeval Berkeley Castle 36"x38"
Mediaeval Tiles 24"x26" interpretations of original tiles partially
obscured by fronds that can be parted to reveal the image completely
The Enchanted Forest 24"x26"represents myths and legends
These works are a theme on the mediaeval era that are inspired by my
fascination with the links to our past that are all around us,often
hidden or unrecognised. They are executed in recycled fabric heavily
decorated by stitch - a medium which seemed most to suit the subject.
